Erna Low Combloux

Combloux is a traditional farming village located at the foot of the famous Mont Blanc less than an hour from Geneva. Described by French poet victor Hugo as the “Pearl of the Alps, nestled in a jewel box of glaciers”, the resort remains one of the most picturesque destinations in the French Alps due to its unspoilt, picture postcard surroundings and chocolate box architecture.

Now a well renowned year-round tourist destination, the resort’s origins arc back as far as 1284 when the first parts of the village were built on an ancient roman road, now the route from Sallanches to Megeve. This long history contributes to the wonderful, traditional atmosphere that still encompasses the village today.

As the world famous town of Megeve is just 5km away, Combloux acts as a peaceful mountain retreat which benefits from all that Megeve offers – from its Michelin star restaurants, Chanel boutiques and lively bars. More importantly, as the price/m2 of property in Combloux is almost €3,000 less than a comparable property in Megeve, it offers an affordable alternative for those looking for competitively priced Alpine property in the area.

Winter tourism in Combloux was developed after the 1924 Olympics in nearby Chamonix when a few hotels and apartments were opened for guests. One of the very first drag lifts in France then opened in Combloux 1935, which kick-started the ski industry within the resort.

Summer tourism in Combloux actually came before the popularity of skiing, as long ago as 1912, when rich clientele from the big cities travelled to the resort to relax during the summer months.

Today, Combloux is part of the 3rd largest ski area in France (Evasion Mont Blanc – 445km) and prides itself on being a year-round mountain village that has kept many of its past traditions. Access to the ski area is quick and easy, with visitors having a choice between the high speed 4 man lift in Combloux or the 8-man ‘Princesse’ lift just before Megeve.
Summer is still as popular as the winter – the resort hosts the only ecological lake in France in which you can swim and offers the potential for a wide range of other summer activities for families and extreme sports fanatics alike.
