    Espace San Bernardo

    Espace San Bernardo

Espace San Bernardo is a Franco-Italian ski area created in 1984. It is located in the French department of Savoy and in the Aosta Valley in Italy. It is made up of two linked ski resorts; on the French side there is La Rosière and on the Italian side the resort of La Thuile. View our featured Espace Bernardo ski properties below!

The resort’s name is a tribute to Saint-Bernard de Menthon who built a hostel at the top of Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, to protect travellers.

    La Rosière

La Rosière is a family friendly resort. It began its development into a winter tourist destination in the 1960’s and in 1984 was linked with its Italian neighbour La Thuile to form the ski area we know today.

The whole resort is South-facing, meaning that during the Christmas period it is bathed in sun for 9 hours of the day. Despite this, La Rosiere has an extremely good snow record and the North-facing slopes towards La Thuile hold the snow right through to last lifts.

From each corner of La Rosiere you are greeted with stunning views of the magnificent Mont Pourri and the surrounding Tarentaise valley.

There are 160 km of piste to enjoy and the terrain is varied. Beginners will prefer staying on the French side where they will find great runs adapted for their level while more confident skiers and snowboarders will enjoy going on the Italian side where there are more challenging slopes. There are two snowparks as well, one being more beginners orientated. The domain also offers some good off-piste spots and even heli-skiing opportunities .But the real tour de force of La Rosière is that you can enjoy a croissant for breakfast before embarking on a short ski session to Italy for a pizza for lunch and this makes for an interesting area to explore.

    Don’t really fancy skiing?

The area offers other winter activities such as ice skating, sledging, paragliding, cross-country skiing or snowshoe hiking. Some hotel pools are open to the public as well. There is also a cinema and a bowling alley to enjoy a good evening after a day skiing. You will find most of the restaurants and bars in the main village of La Rosière and some good hotels and chalets in les Eucherts, the two areas of the resort are linked by bus during the day but you can also enjoy a walk between the two villages.

    Summer in Espace San Bernardo

During summer in La Rosière you can enjoy a hike in the mountains, go mountain biking or rock climbing. More intense activities include paragliding or white water sports.

    Events

The resort organises many different entertainments throughout the season. During your stay you will have the opportunity to see free concerts, some freestyle competitions and themed evenings.
