It may come as a surprise to some, that Les Sybelles is the fourth largest linked ski area in France. This picturesque area the heart of the Maurienne Valley is made up of 310km of linked pistes, which is 10km larger than the much loved Espace Killy (Tignes and Val d’Isere).

Still relatively untouched by the Brits, this area is made up of 6 ski-in ski-out resorts – La Toussuire, Le Corbier, Les Bottieres, St. Colomban des Villards, St. Jean d’Arves and St. Sorlin d’Arves.

The main draw of this ski area – besides its sheers size – is the accessibility of the slopes. The best form of transport is on your skis and there is rarely the need to get in your car or take a bus. If you do wish to jump in the car though, you will benefit from the area’s proximity to Orelle, a small resort which is linked by gondola to the Three Valleys.

The villages within Les Sybelles are traditionally French, with a number of excellent Savoyard restaurants and chalet-style après bars. There are new developments planned in Les Sybelles, so it is an area well worth keeping an eye on.

Key information:

  • Altitude: 1100m - 2620m
  • 310km of piste
  • 1hr from Grenoble, 55mns from Chambery
